Robert Thake will be giving a public lecture entitled ‘Censoring nationalism in eighteenth-century Malta: Agius de Soldanis and Acciard’s Mustafà Bassà di Rodi,’ at the National Library, Valletta on Friday, the 3rd of May 2013 at 7.00pm.

The one-hour lecture will deal with the Gozitan author and historian, Agius de Soldanis and the publication of a prohibited book he is believed to have written. The latter publication is widely considered to be the most controversial book to be written throughout the lengthy occupation of the Knights of St John.

The lecture should be of interest to any history students or enthusiasts, as well as anyone with an interest in Melitensia and censorship.

The event will act concurrently as a book-launch to Robert Thake’s first book entitled ‘Patriotism, Deception and Censorship: De Soldanis and the 1751 Account of the Uprising of the Slaves.’

The lecture, which is free, will be delivered in English, with light refreshments to follow.
