Xaghra commemoration of the 1919 Sette Giugno RiotsThe Regional Committee for National Celebrations, in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council, is once again organising a ceremony to commemorate the Maltese victims during the 7th June 1919 riots.

These riots were the result of various unpopular measures taken by the English who were ruling the nation. One of the victims was Guzeppi Bajada, born in Xaghra.

The activity will be held on Thursday the 6th of June 2013, on the eve of the national feast day of Sette Giugno, with this programme:

9.00am: At the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady, there will be the celebration of Holy Mass by Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo with the participation of Xaghra children.

10.00am: In front of Guzeppi Bajada’s monument in Bullara Street, a commemorative ceremony including the laying of wreaths will be held.

The ceremony will be under the patronage of the Minister for Gozo Dr. Anton Refalo. The Xaghra Mayor Mr. Joseph Cordina will also be in attendance together with the Xaghra councilors.

Everyone is invited to attend.
