The Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, Owen Bonnici was formally presented with the First Document for Public Consultation prepared by the Commission for the Holistic Reform of the Justice System.
This document was prepared by the 31st of May, 2013 within the established deadlines as decreed in the terms of reference published with the appointment of the Commission on the 24th of March 2013.
The report is accessible for public consultation and so that stakeholders and the general public can put forward their suggestions till the end of June. This one month consultation period can be extended by another month should the need arise.
This is the first of two documents; the second document is expected to be published towards the end of July. The second document will focus on specific sectors of the justice system such as Legal Aid, the Gozo Court and the Family Court. This document will also be made available for public consultation.
During a press conference this morning, the Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon. Owen Bonnici thanked the members of the Commission for their earnest work and stressed that it is the Government’s intention to ensure that things truly change for the better within the Justice Sector.
A copy of the First Document for Public Consultation, which at present is only available in Matese, a copy in English is to be available soon, will be uploaded this morning on the website of the Commission: www.krhg.gov.mt and formal copies of the same document will be sent to all stakeholders.
