A saga that has gone on for almost six years to save Ramla Bay from the development of villas instead of Ulysses Lodge is over, the NGO Save Ramla has said that “the site is saved from destruction.” This was confirmed in recent days through communication from the Chairman of Malta Environment and Planning Authority to Architect Lino Bianco, the environment consultant engaged by Save Ramla, the non-governmental organization which had put forward the case for the revocation of the planning permits issued by the MEPA.

The NGO said that the Authority revoked these permits following detailed technical reports submitted by Professor Bianco. These reports included proof that permits were issued on information that was “false, misleading or incorrect” in terms of Article 39A of the Development Planning Act.

Appeals were subsequently filed by the developer against the revocation of these permits. The Environment and Planning Review Tribunal confirmed these revocations. A further appeal filed with the Court of Appeal against the decision of the Tribunal was also dismissed by the same Court.

Save Ramla Committee said that it would like to thank all those who took a staunch stand against this development, especially the general public who supported and contributed to this cause both morally and financially. “We assure you that we will continue to work for the protection of Ramla Bay and its geocultural environs, an inheritance from our forefathers which we are entrusted to safeguard for our children, our future generations.”
