63-year-old Gerald Galea of Marsalforn, was this afternoon charged with the murder of John Spiteri and the attempted murder of Mr Spiteri’s son Matthew.

It is alleged that Gerald Galea ran John Spiteri over over with his Daihatsu Terios, following an argument over the pruning of trees to make way for a food kiosk in an area of Qbajjar,

Galea, who appeared in the Gozo Court, was also charged with damaging a Daihatsu, owned by Joseph Hili, damaging an Isuzu van owned by the victim and dangerous driving,

John Spiteri died later on Wednesday evening as a result of the injuries received.

Gerald Galea was also injured in the incident and had been in hospital until recently.

Galea pleaded not guilty to the charges. He did not request bail and was remanded in custody.
