Do trade unions accept the use of police as waiters? - ADAlternattiva Demokratika in a statement this morning referred to the report in some media that between 25 and 30 police officers were ordered to leave their stations and report for work at Girgenti to serve as waiters in an official Ministerial function.

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said, “Does this type of activity fall within the job description of a police officer? Would it not be better for the policemen to be on the beat, at the service of the citizen? Has the upcoming police trade union been consulted on this?

“Are the GWU and other unions representing the hotel industry workers happy at the way their members are deprived of work, that has been carried out by cheap labour police officers who have to obey orders?”

Carmel Cacopardo, AD spokesman on Sustainable Development and Home Affairs, stated that “the manner in which the police officers are being ordered about by Government Ministers indicates that the Commissioner of police is just a figurehead. It is his duty to defend the dignity of the Police Force and it is clear that he has failed at the first opportunity.”

might as well be waiters, nothing else to do, the whole police force want revamping, expanding and given more duties like police forces in other eu countries ! waiting tables not being one of them, and the sentence above: Would it not be better for the policemen to be on the beat, When was the last time you saw police officers ” on the beat “
