David Zerafa, of Nadur, who was found guilty of the murder of Gozitan Lawyer Michael Grech, has today appealed the life sentence handed down to him by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano.Grech.

Zerafa was found guilty of murder on the 18th of June by the jury with eight votes to one, The murder took place in Marsalforn in May 2005.

Malcolm Mifsud, the Defence Lawyer, on presentation of the appeal, said that the jury did not have enough proof to make an informed decision to be able to accuse his client.

The Lawyer said that the Magistrate, in his final appeal, could have misdirected the jury by the wrong interpretation of law. He also said that the sentence handed down to his client was excessive.
