This month Fr. Anthony Zammit, a missionary priest from Victoria, Gozo, visited Sri Lanka where he said he met a young boy that “stole his heart when he discovered that this boy had never been able to walk.”

Two days ago Fr. Anthony got in contact with the Foundations ‘Mintix Wahdek’ and ‘Missionary Knights,’ to try and locate a wheelchair for this boy, as well as some summer clothes for an orphanage of girls.

Fr. Anthony said that Paul Zahra of ‘Floriana Bicycles’ was happy to donate a brand new wheelchair. “The two mentioned Foundations also said that they look forward to help the orphanage in Sri Lanka in the near future.”

MP Silvio Parnis and the members of Missionary Knights have raised funds for the missionary work of Fr. Anthony before, particularly for Peru. Fr. Anthony thanked the Emirates Airline for its generous help of delivering the goods free of charge to Sri Lanka.

Fr. Anthony said that the Foundation received the wonderful sum of €7629.00 from the Overseas Development Funds for the building of a roof of a school podium in Peru, saying that “the only way poverty can be eradicated is by education.”

Fr. Anthony has created a High School which was named after him, ‘Colegio Anthony Zammit..’and is now opening a new ‘Kindergarten’ He would also like to build a school for people with special needs. His hope is that in the future more Maltese Foundations will support his work.

The wheel hair and clothes, that will make such a difference to some young lives, were sent to Sri Lanka on Wednesday and should arrive today, (Thursday),
