On Monday afternoon, lifeguards from Gozo’s Emergency Response and Rescue Corps assisted three persons who suffered from spinal injuries after jumping from high rocks in Cominotto.
The victims were between 19 and 25 years of age and they were from Britain, France and Puerto Rico. After immobilisation, two of them were transported to Mgarr Harbour with Lifesaver I and transferred to the Gozo General Hospital, while the third victim was airlifted by the Armed Forces of Malta to Mater Dei Hospital.
The lifeguarding service at the Blue Lagoon in Comino is possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Mgarr Marina, Transport Malta, Police, Armed Forces of Malta, Police and the Civil Protection Department.
Walter How come these young people keep getting hurt in most the same areas ??? Don’t the Health and Safety Depts. are putting any SAFETY Signs ,for these young people , that never been there before ????? They should put SINGNS Saying where the water is SHOLLOW . So they do not get hurt . . Many tourist do not know how deep the water is . Because some of them never been there before .. . . This is the Job, for all the Safety Authorities . to open their BIG EYES ,…………… Gozitan from Xaghra .
we were on a boat trip around comino yesterday and saw these brainless kids jumping from a height of about 4 stories into the water, we shouted warnings of the danger and the kids just laughed and carried on ,absolutely stupid behaviour
