The Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, has today launched a public consultation on changing the college set-up and school uniforms.

The total number of colleges would remain but could be distributed more evenly to better fit local populations.

Minister Bartolo said any proposal to change the college set-up would be to ensure a more level structure, avoiding substantial population differences between colleges. He said that the consultation period would last until the end of October.

Possible changes to school uniforms include a simpler uniform or scrapping them altogether. Equally, a decision could be taken to preserve the current school uniforms. This will depend on the outcome of feedback as well as a survey of parents to be carried out over the next scholastic year.

The Minister said that the government would not simply impose change but would listen to feedback from stakeholders, especially parents and educators. He also stressed that no change would occur during the next academic year.
