The Hunters’ Federation (FKNK) said in a statement this morning that “as had been promised, the Government has beefed-up law enforcement during this open hunting season taking it to new levels.”
“The number of police officers of the ALE (Administrative Law Enforcement) unit has been increased substantially; the police cavalry has been engaged and army officers have also been deployed,” the FKNK said.
It added, “never has Malta witnessed such security measures since the time of the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in 2005 also marked by the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth. Since the opening of the hunting season on 1 September, around 1,800 spot checks on hunters in the field have been carried out.”
“Yet, BirdLife Malta (BLM), in total disrespect of the local authorities, has been reported as stating that “it had not seen the increased policing in the countryside promised by the government..” and, without producing a single shred of evidence, photographs or videos, still maintain that protected birds are being targeted,” the FKNK said.
“Likewise,” the FKNK said, “it is happy to report that it has received several reports of good influxes of migrating protected bird species from raptors to herons and others over the Maltese islands, which have safely continued on their south-westerly flights.”
The FKNK said it “applauds its members in attaining this scenario and encourages them to keep it up.”
So the highest level of security since the visit of the queen is in place in Malta, and for what? So that little birds can be protected as they fly through the skies of Malta. That is pretty disgusting when you think about it. Malta has become such a dangerous place for birds due to FKNK and their members that the police and army have to be called out to protect them!
How can they say “not a shred of evidence, photographs and videos” doesn’t the FKNK see the BLM or CABS Facebook pages, or the BLM Raptor Camp blog? Finally worked out what FKNK stands for F…… Knows, Nor Kares!
