A Blood Drive took place last Saturday, at the Arkadia Complex in Victoria, organised by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps in collaboration with the Malta Blood Transfusion Services, Gozo General Hospital Blood Donation Department and the Arkadia Shopping Complex.

The event took place between 8.30am and 1.00pm and attracted 39 blood donors, most of which were first time donors. This is an annual event, held to increase the awareness of blood donation and at the same time attract more individuals to become blood donors.

The Malta Blood Transfusion Centre is in Pieta and is open daily every day from 9am till 7pm and the Blood Donation Department at the Gozo General Hospital is on Monday to from 8am till 11.30am and Saturdays 6am till 11am. It opens on a Sunday every 4 weeks from 8am till 1.00pm, the next planned Sunday opening is the 20th of October.

You can start donating blood betwen the age of 18 years and 63 years; 17 year olds must have a parent/guardian consent. Regular donors above 63 years and under 68 years may donate, but the intervals between donations should not exceed 6 months. New donors above 63 years are not accepted.
