In light of recent numbers published by the National Statistics Office regarding the number of commuters travelling between Malta and Gozo, the Gozo University Group said that it calls for more concrete statistics to explain this information.
“The increase in the number of passengers and trips may be considered as a favourable result; however, such statistics lack detail with regards to the purpose of passengers using sea transport,” GUG said.
The Group pointed out that “such data should classify and give an overview of the number of Gozitan workers and students travelling for work or school purposes, distinct from commuters and tourists travelling for recreational purposes.”
GUG concluded by saying that it believes that such detailed statistics are important since they may shed light on any increase in the number of Gozitan workers and students working and studying in Malta.
