The Assocjazzjoni Suldati Pensjonanti has said today that “over the last six months it has sent a number of emails through its Secretary, to the Ministry of Finance at its Secretariat, the Customer Care Department and the Minister himself, Prof Edward Scicluna.”

“All this was done, for the simple reason to meet with the Minister and discuss the various issues concerning our members, who incidentally, have, each one of them, served this nation for 25 years or more and who are now retired and asking for justice,” the Association said.

“For some unknown reason we did not receive a single reply for our efforts, not even an acknowledgement, for courtesy’s sake.”

The Association added, “we consider this level of thought as an insult to those persons who served this nation and risked their lives whenever they were called for; and most particular to those of our members who have shown faith in this Government by voting for it during the last General Election.”

The ASP said, “bBefore the election, in our very early days of existence, we met with the PL spokes person, Mr Joe Debono Grech, this meeting was very promising. So much so, that we invited him to address our Annual General Meeting, a thing he both accepted and did.”

“After the General Election we also met with both the Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Dr Emanuel Mallia and the Minister for Family and Social Solidarity Ms Marie Louise Colerio Preca. The meetings with Dr E Mallia seem to have stalled, (not from our part), whilst with the Ms ML Colerio Preca we are to mert again,” the ASP concluded.

The Association for retired Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), the ‘Assocjazzjoni Suldati Pensjonanti’ (ASP) was set up at the end of last year, with the aim of improving the conditions of those ex-Servicemen who have completed their career in uniform under arms.
