The Gozo Tourism Association refers to the latest tourism statistics for the period January to August 2013, released yesterday by the National Statistics Office.

The GTA notes that “the positive trend in increases in tourist arrivals to the Maltese Island, continued well into this year whereby an increase of 8.2% in tourist bednights on a national level was registered.”

“This trend was also reflected and recorded postively in the Gozitan tourism industry,” the GTA added.

The Association pointed out that “infact the number of tourists bednights spent in Gozitan Hotels and Guesthouses, between January and August, 2013 registered an increase of 12,809 bednights or 7% more on the recorded figures for the same period in 2012.

“Furthermore this increase in bednights was double the increase registered for the period January to August 2012 when compared with same period of 2011. This increase in 2013 also positively affected the length of stay in Gozitan Hotels and Guesthouses, which registered an increase of 5% on the average length of stay for the period January to August 2012.”

“It has to be stated that these figures only relate to hotels and guesthouses registered in Gozo and do not include the self-catering sector which includes the unique farmhouse product as well as self-catering apartments,” the Association said.

Concluding, the Gozo Tourism Association said that it believes that this year’s current performance augurs well for better prospects in the tourism sector on Gozo. Through the collaboration and synergized efforts of all concerned, as well as sound decisions taken at the right time, Gozo’s unique potential can be better maximised for the benefit of this important industry on the island.”
