Reduced energy tariffs will remain in force until 2020 - Energy MinisterThe Energy Minister, Konrad Mizzi, announced today the reduced energy tariffs, that are effective from March 2014. He said that they will remain in force until 2020.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Mizzi said that revision in the tariffs, were fulfilling a promise made by the Labour Party prior to the General Election.

The Minister said that the reduced tariffs will mean that a single person using up to 2,000 units of electricity will receive a bill of €83 instead of €155. A family of two persons using up to 3,500 units will receive a bill of €300 instead of €423. A family of three using up to 5,000 units will spend €469 instead of €657 while a family of four using up to 6,600 units will pay €653 instead of €890.

Dr Mizzi said that the prices had already been discussed with the consortium Electrogas, the successful bidders for the new gas fired power station.

The Minister also announced that the Government was still not satisfied with the service provided by ARMS, among the problems, thousands of households have not received a bill for more than 12 months. Two new regional offices, one in the north and one in the south of Malta, are to be opened by ARMS in the near future.
