The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience recently held its annual international conference, (IAESTE JUMP) and this year, for the first time, it took place in Gozo.

This conference is designed to inform new members of IAESTE how the association operates and also to provide them with the skills they will need to be able to organise a Local Committee and more importantly raise jobs effectively. It is also an important forum to meet new people, create international networks, learn about new cultures and make lifelong friends.

This year’s edition of IAESTE JUMP (Join Us to Motivate People), was very successful with a record number of 114 attendees, coming from 21 different countries ranging from Lebanon to Australia.

The conference highlights included talks by motivational speaker Markus Orlovsky, a presentation by IAESTE Lebanon, a branch of IAESTE which has seen its birth and remarkable growth in the last year, and workshops on various IAESTE related issues.

IAESTE is an international organisation which provides an exchange programme whereby students reading for degrees in technical subjects have the opportunity to travel to a different country and carry out internships related to their studies. Every year more than 4000 traineeships are exchanged between more than 85 countries worldwide.

The national and local committees of IAESTE throughout the world are usually made up of students who are also studying technical subjects, such as engineering, science and IT. These students, however, will be responsible for activities which differ from the subjects they are studying at University.

Workshops taking place within this conference tackled issues such as job raising and marketing (add more). This makes such an event very important for the organisation since it helps in the knowledge exchange within the international sphere.

Attendees also had the chance to visit various places in Malta and Gozo. All the attendees travelled to Malta to visit Mdina and Wied iz-Zurrieq during the conference. In Gozo they visited Dwejra and a night hike to Cittadella was used as an opportunity for team building games.

IAESTE Malta said that it would like “to thank the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta Council of Science and Technology, and Gozo Village Holidays for making this event a success. Moreover, thanks go to Air Malta which was the main airline for the event.”

All extra food from the event was donated to L-Arka Foundation in Gozo.
