The Gozo Toursim Association has said that Gozitan tourism establishments reported very good business during the Free Travel to Gozo weekend. “The Association augurs, that this initiative will open up opportunities to extend the touristic season with the domestic market all through the winter months.”
“The accommodation establishments especially the hotels, the restaurants, as well as other tourism services related businesses, experienced a heavy demand from the thousands of Maltese who took the opportunity to travel for free to Gozo,” the GTA said.
“This initiative by the Ministry for Gozo with the collaboration of Gozo Channel, provided the island with an influx of domestic guests who crossed over to Gozo to enjoy a break, during this relatively quiet period of the year,” the Association said.
This Free Travel to Gozo was also supported by various activities which included music concerts, dance shows, cultural tours as well as football tournaments, rugby, athletics events and horse races. All these activities provided the domestic tourists added value to their visit to Gozo.
The GTA added, “a merited thanks goes to the Gozo Football Association, the Gozo Culture Department and the other sports organisations who contributed towards these events.”
The Gozo Tourism Association “thanked the Ministry for Gozo, for organising, co-ordinating and financing this initiative.”
The Association concluded by saying that it would like to “thank the Gozo Channel Co. Ltd, its Chairman, board of Directors and its employees, as well as the Gozo Police Corps for their efforts towards this weekend, as well as all its members who were giving special offers in their respective establishments during this weekend and the Maltese guests who visited Gozo during this weekend.”
