During a press conference held this morning, the Transport Minister Joe Mizzi announced that people will be eligible to claim a Government grant of up to €5,000 if they scrap their car and replace it with an electric one.

“The Government is aiming to use cleaner cars by next year and a National Electro-mobility Platform, PORT-PVEV, was being set up to enable the public to receive information about electric vehicles,” the Minister said.

Malta should have 5,000 electric vehicles by 2020, according to the EU targets, this should reduce traffic emissions that currently account for 16.9% for the total emissions on the island, the Government said.
