The community residing near the Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot in Xaghra, Gozo, “is a dynamic community” that organises a programme of activities spread over the whole year, with the participation of people from all age groups, including children, youths and the elderly.

With the enthusiasm of the present Rector, the Reverend Canon John Sultana and with the collaboration of various people, the Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot, which has a history dating back hundreds of years, was given a new appearance and increased the services which it offers for the benefit of its community.For Christmas 2013, this community in Xaghra is inviting the general public to visit the various attractions related to this beautiful period of the year.

Amongst the attractions to visit are:

The Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot decorated for Christmas festivities;

The tree near the church decorated with special Christmas lights; A mechanical crib;

A static crib built by the altar boys who serve in this community; Various small cribs: and

A crib themed ‘Issibu Tarbija’ animated by the children and including live animals.

These exhibitions are open for the general public and entrance is free of charge. They will open on Saturday, the 21st of December and close on Sunday, the 5th of January 2014, Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.

The traditional feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot in Xaghra will be celebrated on Sunday, the 19th of January 2014.

The local community is inviting Maltese, Gozitans and foreigners to attend the celebrations for this feast, with a full programme of activities, which will reach a climax at 4.00pm with the procession with the statue of Saint Anthony followed by the traditional blessing of animals and pets led by H.L. Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.
