21 proposals have been submitted for land reclamation projects, by 17 local and foreign companies, including, in one case, a joint venture between the two, the Government has said in a statement.

The projects extend between Marsaxlokk and Gozo ranging from extensions of existing projects to new and innovative projects including a race track, sports facilities, underground, marina Village, boutique hotels, beaches and new green areas, business centres, and even floating villages.

The statement added that some of the projects submitted are proposed to be beyond Maltese shores but in our territorial waters.

The Government said that it is not bound to select these projects, some of the project proposals may be required to submit other studies to support these projects.

Adding that the evaluation will be made by a Committee, which will be based on the innovation of the projects themselves as well as on the enviornmental, financial and social impact.

The Government said that many of the projects incorporate a green energy plan “and will not be a burden on the infrastructure and services of the country.”

The Governement’s plan is to hold a public exhibition of the proposed projects, to enable the Maltese public to have the opportunity to see each project that has been presented, it concluded.
