The Communist Party of Malta insists that, “the departure of Arriva from Malta should incentivize the authorities to introduce changes which will improve the service so that it will meet the needs of all those who make use of it. This should put pressure on the Government to nationalise the service.”

It added, “the social aspect of this service should be given priority. The regular commuters are pensioners, workers, students, families on low income, immigrants, and persons with disabilities and those with social and mental health problems. As well as those, who aim to reduce the use of their private car.”

The Party said that “any changes should guarantee better working conditions for all employees in this sector. They are working in a stressful environment where great responsibility is required. We are glad to hear that the Government will safeguard all employees’ job.”

The Communist Party of Malta concluded, that it “maintains that efficiency, time schedules, and decent wages for employees, should be the main ingredients of this reform. State subsidies should remain an integral part of this reform, to make the service one that will meet the passengers’ needs.”
