Gozitan patients have today been able to make use of the Chemotherapy Lounge in the Day Care Unit at the Gozo General Hospital.

In a statement the Government said that this was the conclusion of a promise made in the election manifesto of the Labour Party, for Gozitan patients and their families to be given the care they need in Gozo.

“The Day Care Ward which hosts the Gozo Chemotherapy Lounge was completed last year, and it enables those patients who would normally have to attend Boffa Hospital for chemotherapy, to be able to now receive this treatment in Gozo, causing less stress and suffering, as well as saving on travel expenses, both for the patient as well as relatives.”

This is also part of the Gozo General Hospital reform, with a view to expand the number of services offered in Gozo, the statement said.

The Government said that the chemotherapy service was available from the last week of December, however until today, there were no patients clinically in need of this treatment.

The Minister for Health, Dr Godfrey Farrugia thanked the administration of the Gozo General Hospital, the medical team and all those involved in the start up of this service in Gozo, as was announced by the Government in 2013.
