TODAY, 2ND FEBRUARY 2014, GOZO WAS ISOLATED FROM THE WORLD !!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED OF A FIXED LINK. GOZO CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER AS WE ARE EXPERIENCING A NATURAL DEATH. BUSINESSES ARE FINDING THE GOING SO HARD THAT THEY ARE EITHER OPEING SHOP IN MALTA ARE SERIOUSLY THINKING OF CLOSING. OUR CHILDREN WHO WORK AND STUDY IN MALTA, LIVE THE WHOLE WEEK THERE AND THOSE WHO STILL DECIDE TO COME HOME FOR THE WEEKEND, ENCOUNTER HUGE DIFFICULTIES TO CROSS. APART FROM THE ROUGH ELEMENTS,. THEY HAVE TO SPEND LONG HOURS WAITING TO BOARD A FERRY!!! THIS IS PROMPTING OUR YOUNG GENERATION TO MOVE TO MALTA AND WE CANNOT BLAME THEM. POOR GOZO!!!

Michael for everyone who leaves Gozo they will always be replaced by others who love the place and want to live there. As for the fixed link, be careful what you wish for as it would destroy forever the tranquillity of Gozo. Oh and by the way, during adverse weather conditions bridges are closed for safety reasons.

So why didn’t the ferry try and sail to Grand Harbour as used to be the norm before?

Stop bellyaching. I work daily in Gozo coming up from Malta … Occasionally I have to sleep over in Gozo because of weather conditions … Possibly 2-3 times a year. What a disaster! Unfortunately it has never been bad enough to prevent me making it here for work. The real issue is the lack of initiative and long term enterprise in Gozo to keep locals from needing to go to work in Malta. Do you really want to end up looking and becoming like Malta?? Do you really want to loose your beautiful island to the Maltese. Really what fun it was here in Gozo with the free ferry.day in Movember last year :(imagine having that sort of occupation here in Gozo on a daily basis. And what do you know about traffic in Malta? Can you not imagine the traffic jams starting in Gozo every day if a tunnel or a bridge are built? And maybe you would expect that crossing this bridge or tunnel would be free of charge . Think again! Have you heard of toll bridges or toll gates. They not only take money from you to use the tunnel or bridge, they also are a source of major congestion and traffic delays. If you were in central Europe your children would still have had to leave home for work or career development especially if they lived in the small village mentality equivalent that Gozo is without opportunity and long term business and enterprise development. The answer is not building a bridgs or tunnel . It is developing Gozo into something more sustainable!

Walter Michael Galea Do not depend on the Maltese people only, to keep Gozo Economy growing .You must make the Gozitans to spend some money also, to help the Economy working .By only the Maltese people spending money it’s not enough. Economy WORKS LIKE A WHEEL .You need all people to spend money to keep the Wheel turning … Gozitans must spend money too . Not just take them to the BANKS . And not spend them GOZITAN

    5. Mick Cundy says:

Gozo is Gozo and long may it remain so. Not become another overdeveloped, congested, polluted suburb of Malta.

        Hear hear.

      • SAL says:

i second that, i go even further by saying Gozo is for the Gozitans & Malta is for the Maltese, if one gets my drift. finally PROUD TO BE A GOZITAN . Finally any visitors please obey the rules and keep Gozo Clean!

      • James A. Tyrrell says:

I agree with you Sal apart from the last bit. The only people I have ever seen dumping stuff on the ground are locals, unless of course the visitors you refer to are Maltese over for the weekend. The ex pats on Gozo seem to have a lot more respect for the countryside than the locals. Sad but true.
