The Gozo University Group in a statement this afternoon said that it “welcomes the news that, according to a spokesman for the Health Ministry, Gozo has been chosen as the location for the prestigious new medical school to be set up in Malta by the Queen Mary University of London.”

GUG added that it encourages the Government to undertake similar initiatives in order to develop Gozo into an educational hub. “Having both international and Maltese students, studying in Gozo would counter balance the number of Gozitan students studying in Malta and also stimulate the Gozitan economy in sectors such as real estate and retail.”

The University Group concluded that it also welcomes the fact that the school will also require Maltese hospital staff to provide teaching in the latter years of the course, thus creating job opportunities in Gozo.
