Carnival weekend 2014 programme of events in Xaghra

The Xaghra Local Council is once again organising various activities during Carnival time, with a programme of event as follows:
Saturday 1st March 2014: Carnival Saturday.
From 7.30pm onwards: A varied Carnival programme in Nazzarenu Square. There will be the traditional kukkanja and the traditional kumittiva dance, Gozitan traditional ftira will be on sale. A free glass of wine will be given to the audience present. There will be also line dancing and various Carnival competitions.
The programme will be presented by popular Maltese singer Renato. A comedy ‘Majsi ghall-Karnival!’ written by local author Mr. Carmel Bajada will be staged. (Applications for the Carnival competitions will close on Thursday 27th February at 4pm).
Sunday 2nd March 2014: Carnival Sunday.
10.00am: Carnival band marches by the Victory Band of Xaghra, starting from near Ta’ Kola Windmill in Bambina Street along Frangisk Camilleri Street, Imqades Street, 8th September Avenue and Victory Square.
11.00am: The first part of the kumittiva dance will be presented. Afterwards, the Victory Band will continue to play Carnival band marches in Victory Square.
From noon onwards: A varied Carnival programme in Victory Square including defilé of Carnival floats, dance by local companies and the traditional kumittiva dance. The prinjolata will be given, free of charge, to the audience present. A comedy ‘Majsi ghall-Karnival!’ written by local author Mr. Carmel Bajada will be staged. The programme will be presented by Miriam Christine Borg and Owen Bonnici.
These activities are organised by the Xaghra Local Council in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Culture and Local Government and Visit Malta, Everyone is invited to attend this Carnival weekend in Xaghra.
