January’s industrial producer price index down by 1.02% – NSO

Provisional data indicate that the industrial producer price index in January decreased by 1.02 per cent over the previous month, the National Statistics Office reported today.
In January, the producer price index for total industry decreased by 1.02 per cent to 96.74 points. Prices decreased by 2.72 per cent for intermediate goods but increased by 0.48 and 0.32 per cent for consumer and capital goods respectively. No changes were reported for energy.
While prices within the domestic market remained stable, prices for the non-domestic sector went down by 1.76 per cent due to a decrease of 3.62 per cent in intermediate goods. On the other hand, prices increased by 0.49 and 0.87 per cent for capital and consumer goods respectively.
Producer prices in respect of goods destined for the euro area decreased by 0.62 per cent while prices in the non-euro area declined by 2.42 per cent.
On an annual basis, the industrial producer price index decreased by 1.31 per cent. The downturn resulted from price decreases in intermediate goods by 4.26 per cent. However, price increases of 1.88 per cent and 0.38 per cent were recorded in consumer and capital goods respectively. No price changes were registered in the energy sector.
Producer prices for the domestic market went down by 0.02 per cent, mainly on account of a decrease in prices for intermediate goods by 1.31 per cent, but rose by 0.18 per cent and 0.98 per cent for capital and consumer goods.
During the period under review, non-domestic prices decreased by 2.23 per cent, on account of a 3.63 per cent drop registered in the non-euro area. However, this was slightly mitigated by a 0.25 per cent increase in prices of goods destined for the euro area.
