St. Mary of Amaseno, in the small village of Amaseno, set in the mountains of the Province of Frosinone, near Rome, has a reliquary vial enshrined there, said to be that of the blood of St Lawrence, the ancient Roman deacon martyred in the 3rd Century.

St. Mary of Amaseno was consecreated in 1165 and due to its situation among the mountains, the village is known as the ‘Valley of St. Lawrence.’

The Parish of San Lawrenz recently announced that this July, the relic will be brought to the village in Gozo. Fr Ignatius Borg, the former parish priest of San Lawrenz, now the Archpriest at Qala, made the announcement and said that it will be the first time that the relic has ever left Amaseno.

On the 10th of August every year, the feast day of St Lawrence, the blood liquifies. Scientists have verified that the vial contains true blood, along with a piece of skin and some fat and ash.

Fr Charles Sultana, the new Parish Priest of San Lawrenz, said the arrival of the relic will be a great grace for the village, for which the parish had to start preparing for.
