“In order for jobs to be generated in Gozo, accessibility is of utmost importance.” This point was stressed by Labour MEP candidate Clint Camilleri during a conference organised recently by the Gozo Business Chamber and the Office of the EU Parliament in Malta.

Camilleri said that the Maltese Government needs to work tirelessly on improving Gozo’s accessibility as this is a huge stumbling block which continues to put off any interest by potential investors.

Camilleri praised the Government initiatives in addressing this problem in particular through the ongoing studies on the possibility of a permanent link, a fast direct ferry service between Mgarr and Valletta, the extension of Gozo’s airstrip to accommodate a fixed wing between both islands, and the expression of interest for a new yacht marina and cruise liner terminal in Gozo.

Camilleri added that he believes that for the Gozitan younger generation to settle and reside in Gozo, a permanent link is indispensable.

Camilleri aso highlighted various projects which the Government has initiated with the aim of incentivizing job creation in Gozo, most of which are financed by the EU.

The political drive, which is being exhibited by the current Government, is essential in order to increase job opportunities in Gozo, Camilleri concluded.
