The fourth day of carnival in Victoria continued with a minor show because of the inclement weather that kept hindering most dancing groups from adding to the usual enthusiasm and revelry that so far has dominated the other events in the past few days days.
However, last minute decisions saw the entrance of a set of Malta made sataric grotesque masks much to the amusement of the public present in St Francis square, Victoria.
As the rain stopped and the weather regained normality more crowds joined in the evening’s event. A british group from Notting Hill were also present in the square, bringing a performance full of colour and movement.
The evening’s highlight was the entrance in the square of a magnificent triumphant float titled ‘F’eghluq snieni, f’dawn il-gzejjer spiccajt u fl-arti tieghi brillajt,’ a float commemorating artist Mattia Preti designed by Gozitan artist Adonai Camilleri Cauchi and executed by veteran collaborator Gorg Zammit and his young dynamic team.
The Gozo Regional closes this evening with a Grand Defilé starting at 6.00pm from outside the Villa Rundle Gardens in Republic Street and will finish in Independence Square. Full details of the evening’s events is available for download here.
