The Nadur Local Council, as in previous years, entrusted the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps to provide first aid and ambulance service at the 5-day carnival festivities in Nadur.
The carnival in Nadur draws large crowds, its majority from Malta. The ERRC said that as always, Saturday was the most crowded, making it the busiest day for the volunteers of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps, having to cater for large amount of casualties.
“The majority of the casualties suffered from excessive consumption of alcohol, but there were other cases of head injuries and fractures,” the ERRC said, and on one of the days it also assisted in the search for a four year old boy.
The volunteers of the ERRC assisted in a total of forty-one casualties; eight of which were transported to the Gozo General Hospital for further treatment.
!Whilst advising the general public to be more cautious in such events,” the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps said that it would like to thank the Nadur Local Council, Malta Police and the staff of the Emergency Department of the Gozo General Hospital for their support.
