The official logo for the 175th Anniversary Celebrations of St George’s Titular Statue was launched, on the occasion of the third and last celebration ‘Is-Siegha tal-Martri,’ celebrated at St George’s Basilica last Saturday night,

“Designed in a simple and elegant style by the Parish Office, it evokes the significance of the celebrations that the parish community will be celebrating in the coming months,” the parish said.

The logo’s central focus is Pietro Paolo Azzopardi’s titular statue of St George, which is enclosed in an almost circular design made of a red line on white background, the traditional colours of the Maltese Flag which also feature in St George’s Cross, which ultimately has its roots in the banner of the Risen Lord. Another grey line leaves the main circle to form the Three Hills, synonymous with Gozo’s old coat-of-arms, since St George is venerated as the Patron Saint of the island and the most outstanding Protector of its Christian faith.

As part of the celebrations the holy relic of the arm of St George, venerated at the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore on the homonymous island in Venice since 1296, will be brought to Gozo for the special festivities which will mark the 175th anniversary at St George’s Basilica, Victoria, of the titular statue of St George in July 2014.
