As part of Prosafe Joint Action Market Surveillance of Battery Chargers the Technical Regulations Division of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has tested a number of electronic and IT battery chargers found on the market in Malta.

From the results forwarded from the accredited laboratory, MCCAA concluded that a ‘travel charger DC Casa’ poses a serious risk to consumers due to the clearance/creepage distances between the primary and secondary circuits not being sufficient.

The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60950-1. Consumers who have bought the captioned travel chargers should refrain from using them and return them back to the retailer from where they have been bought.

Economic operators should remove these products from the market and return them to their supplier. Enforcement action will be taken against economic operators who are found to provide these products to consumers during future inspections.
