The Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said today that the Prime Minister was being “dishonest when he stated that the Nationalist Government has somehow failed to persuade the European Union that Gozo should be recognised as a region.”
The Opposition Leader was referring to the claims made by the Prime Minister, Dr Joseph Muscat during his address at a Labour Party political activity in Gozo on Saturday evening.
“It is hard to believe that the Prime Minister made this statement erroneously considering that Joseph Muscat has served as Member of Parliament for a number of years and knows that the status of Gozo as a region has been recognised in the treaty of Malta’s accession to the European Union,” the Opposition Leader said.
Simon Busuttil added, “the fact is that the Nationalist Government achieved record funding from the European Union of € 1,128 million for the seven year budget. This is a double win for our country considering the overall budget of the European Union fell for this period and not increased.”
