In 2013, registered business units amounted to 71,629, an increase of 1.4 per cent, or 1,002, over the number of business units recorded in 2012. By economic activity, the number of business units in wholesale and retail trade, except that of motor vehicles (NACE divisions 46 and 47 combined), amounted to 19.6 per cent of all business units, up by 1.8 per cent from 2012.
Furthermore, registered business units in crop and animal production (NACE 01), specialised construction activities (NACE 43), food and beverage service activities (NACE 56) and activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (NACE 70), amounted to 3.9, 4.9, 4.5 and 4.1 per cent of the total registered units in 2013 respectively.
By employment size class, 97.0 per cent of business units employ less than 10 persons, and are considered micro entities. On the other hand, only 92 enterprises employ more than 250 persons and are classified as large undertakings.
