Sunday’s Mother’s Day with the Gozo Rocks! Clean & Green Hikes, started from Qala and finished up at Ramla Bay. organiser, Louis Debattista said, “we have been doing really well over the last 4 months: collecting 376 bags of rubbish or recycling, 2 TVs, a computer, and other materials too large for bags. The total distance walked was 83km.”

Louis thanked Eco-Gozo for providing T-Shirts and hats for everyone to wear on Sunday’s hike. They were donated as part of Eco-Gozo’s ‘Give me Gozo Greener and Cleaner’ Campaign.Mother's Day Gozo Rocks! Clean & Green Hike from Qala to RamlaOne of the volunteers on Sunday’s hike commented, “Gozo Rocks Clean & Green Hike…Mother’s Day edition! Qala to Ramla Bay…probably our favourite hikes to date. Absolutely stunning views, varying terrain and to end up on the red sands of Ramla was spectacular.

“Sadly, there was lots of trash along the way, but all in a (Mother’s) day’s work! And no matter what the day, it is always good to know we are making Gozo a cleaner place for everyone! Cheers and many thanks to Gozo-Greyhounds Louis!”

“We are close to reaching our goal of cleaning the entire perimeter of Gozo – what is left is the coast between Dwejra and Ramla.” Louis added, “unfortunately some areas we have already cleaned need to be cleaned again.”

Louis said. “I hope to be able to collaborate with the local councils of Zebbug, San Lawrenz, Ghasri, Gharb and Xaghra for the remaining hikes in order to get transport and materials (recycling bags, wipes and gloves). I trust they will be as helpful as the other local councils have been so far.”

Don’t forget that you can also support Louis on his charity hike from Mgarr to Ramla Bay along the coast, in aid of the Alive Foundation. The hike takes place on Sunday, the 25th of May, and everyone is welcome to join him.
