The Minister for Tourism, Dr Edward Zammit Lewis, speaking during the presentation of the Blue Flag Awards, announced that from next year JET2.com and Jet2 Holidays will start operating to and from Malta.

This airline operates from several airports in the Midlands and northern areas of the UK and specialises in package holidays.

JET2.com has a fleet of 52 aircraft, employs more than 3,000 people and has carried more than 30 million passengers to date, travelling to 65 destination.

The Minister also announced that Norwegian Air is to establish a hub in Madrid, Spain and as from the 5th of July will start operating weekly flights from Madrid to Malta. “This will undoubtedly provide more flexibility and choice to tourists who see Malta as a destination for their holidays.” Dr Edward Zammit Lewis said.

The Tourism Minister said that he considers this day as “an important one for tourism in our country, the fact that it is clearly certified as a tourist destination, which is sure to continue to be beneficial for the sector.”
