Out of a total of 225 applications only 14 couples have been found ineligible for IVF treatment by the ART Prioritisation Committee, the Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mr Chris Fearne said in a statement today.

“188 couples were reviewed so far. 53 couples were offered treatment in December 2013. Another 135 couples are now being prioritised for IVF treatment at Mater Dei Hospital and will start counselling soon. Some of these will be undergoing their second IVF cycle.

There are 78 couples who are still undergoing the necessary investigations prior to IVF,” the Parliamentary Secretary said.

The NHS IVF Entitlement Criteria have been made public since October 2013. The first births are expected in September 2014.
