The Gozo University Group has carried out a survey among Gozitan students to gather their opinions on the proposal of priority boarding on the Gozo Channel.

The Group said that this had the participation of around 200 students from the University of Malta, MCAST and ITS. When asked whether they approved of the plans, 82% said No, 16% said Yes, while the rest where undecided or in favour but with some restrictions.

Based on the response received GUG said said that its position is that “the Gozo Channel ferry is primarily a service for Gozitans, given the lack of employment and education opportunity in Gozo. Therefore, to not make life more difficult for Gozitan students and workers.”

GUG concluded that it “recommends that priority boarding, if implemented, is not allowed during time periods students and workers use the ferry.”
