The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Malta is raising funds and awareness by organising a walk from Sliema (Burger King) to Manoel Island, on Saturday, the 31st of May, starting at 10.00am. Some people will run from San Anton gardens to Manoel Island, starting at 9.00am.
The President of Malta, HE Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, will be present, as well as Chris Fearne (Parliamentary Secretary for Health), Claudio Grech (Shadow Minister of Health), Michael Farrugia (Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity) and Helena Dalli (Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties).
There are some 300 people in Malta diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This auto-immune disease can have very different effects on different people, including difficulty when walking, muscle weakness, and problems with speech or vision, among other symptoms.
In the first few years, symptoms often come and go – sometimes disappearing for months. There is no known cure for MS. However, treatments may help treat MS attacks, manage symptoms and slow the progress of the disease.
Participants will be asked for a €5 donation. People can also send a cheque to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 63 B’Kara BKR 1000
Donations will be used to subsidise patient visits to by professionals including physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists.
