Earlier this month twenty-four students, led by an Assistant Head and two teachers from Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form, Gozo, visited Strasbourg for Euroscola Day, an event sponsored by the EU Parliament.
This was the fourth consecutive year that the Sir Michelangelo Refalo had participated in this initiative and the sixth time overall.
Unlike previous editions, this year’s Euroscola Day was not able to be hosted at the EU Parliament building, owing to the massive European Youth Event (EYE) which was taking place simultaneously with an attendance of over 5000 young people. So instead, Eurosola convened at the adjacent building of the Council of Europe.
The young people from twenty-six schools were accommodated in the Council Chamber. Each school was introduced by its representatives with Maria Refalo and Mario Mizzi being the spokespersons of the Gozo group.
Following a lunch-break the students were split into teams to discuss various European priorities, reach conclusions, suggest solutions and then present them to the assembly.
This memorable trip for the students had started with a two-day visit to Paris, where they crammed in as many sights as possible, including Versailles, the famous museum of the Louvre, the Conciergerie, the Sainte Chapelle, a walk along Champs d’Elysee, a visit to the world-famous Eiffel tower, Les Invalides and the Sacre Coeur on Monte Martre.
This educational-cultural visit ended with a day at Karlsruhe and Triberg in Germany.
