Leone Goes Pop – 7th edition, is set to entertain the heart of Gozo’s capital city, It-Tokk and get everyone ‘In the Mood,’ on Saturday, the 7th of June, a National Holiday.

The Leone Band returns for another year, with a night of pop, rock and swing music, ranging from the most recent hits to some of the immortal classics. A right blend between instrumental showpieces for the 90-strong wind-band, and vocal numbers for popular local singers Chris Grech and Raquela, as well as renowned soprano Claire Caruana, who appear in this year’s line-up.

The public will be hosted and entertained by the popular Danusan Duo – Daniel and Sander, alongside Colin Attard and the Leone Band.

The Leone Band and its conductor said that the audience can expect “a first-rate show filled with fun, amusement, and a good dose of upbeat humour,” as Malta, together with the rest of the world, will be gearing up to watch its bigger neighbours playing in the World Cup. The public is being encouraged to fly and sport its favourite nation’s colours on the night.

With music from the repertoire of The Beatles, Mudugno, Santana, Bennato, Queen and Shakira – among others – the Leone Band “pledges to get anyone (an avid fan or otherwise!) in the mood for a good pre-World Cup party.”

The 7th edition of Leone Goes Pop follows a highly successful 6th one, which for the first time ever, was repeated at Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta (October 2013), as the Leone Band was celebrating its 150th founding anniversary as the first civic band established in Gozo.

Leone Goes Pop starts at 9.00pm. Limited seating is free on a first-come-first-served basis. The public is cordially suggested to be in place at least 30 minutes in advance.
