Gharb Primary School children were able to learn more about our continent and what the European Union actually is, during a visit from a representative of the Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC), in Victoria, Gozo.
The EDIC Manager gave a series of talks to different classes from Kinder up to Year 6 regarding the European Union, as well as handing out books etc for the students, to help them with more information.
Such interactive sessions are being provided by EDIC to promote the EU with children at an early age.
One of the most effective means to reach to grassroots and engage in dialogue with citizens is the network of Europe Direct Information Centres.
Everyone has questions about Europe and how it operates. Where is the best place to go to for answers to all these questions? The EDICs that are spread among all of the EU Member States! EDIC Centres provide information to all its citizens as well as guiding people to local EU specialised information providers when necessary.
The project is co-funded by the European Union.
EDICs are valuable partners for all the European Institutions and Member States. The European Commission launched a call for Proposals 2013 – 2017 and the Gozo Business Chamber in Republic Street, Victoria, was chosen to host its first Information Centre from the 1st January 2013.
EDICs are the first contact point for EU citizens as:
– they answer all types of questions related to EU’s activities and policies;
– they guide towards the sources of information and advice that best meet citizens’ needs.
Services are easily reached in any of the 23 official EU languages of Member States. EDIC staff will guide visitors, replying to wide-ranging EU related questions:
– to reach the best sources of information and contact details within all EU levels;
Rights and opportunities available to all EU citizens e.g. getting residence permit or personal qualifications or funding;
– EU publications at no charge.
