The Minister for Gozo Dr. Anton Refalo, this morning visited ongoing road works in San Lawrenz village.

The upgrading of the Transport Infrastructure Needs Assessment (TINA) Road Network in Gozo was funded through EU funds 2004-2006.

The aim of the project was the upgrading of a 3.3km road section of the arterial road network from Victoria to San Lawrenz Square, linking the western part of Gozo to the TEN – T network.

The Minister said that due to additional works in the first part of the road, the proposed upgraded road was re-dimensioned to 2.47 kms. The total project cost is approximately €5.4 million (incl. VAT).

The road works funded by national funds cover a stretch of road of approximately 600mtrs. It is estimated that the cost of these works amount to approximately €680,000. This amount was funded by the Ministry for Gozo “due to ineptitudes regarding the application for EU funding for this road network,” the Minister said.

The works involve the construction of new storm water main, replacement and installation of new utilities, service culvert, retaining walls, road formation and resurfacing works.
