The International Air Rally of Malta is taking place between Saturday, the 28th of June and Wednesday, the 2nd of July.

This year’s chosen theme is 44 years of European General Aviation in Malta. 12 Light Aircraft will be participating, coming from four European Countries bringing with them some 50 participants.

Main Entries this year are coming from the U.K., Greece, Germany and France.

The organisers said that this year, being the 45th Air Rally, all competitions have had added tasks. These should help to create more excitement and challenges, adding to the already adrenaline raising events of previous years.

This year will see the 3201st participant in the Air Rally, since 1969, bringing to Malta 1153 light Aircraft from 25 countries in Europe, North Africa, Far East, and the United States of America.

A display by the Dauphine’ AC’s Formation Flying Team WIPS will be held on Sunday afternoon.

“Support from Malta Tourism Authority has been formidable and has helped to enhance the number of participants once again,” the organisers said.

In rallies of this kind in Europe, it is the prominent pilots and their planes and not the number of aircraft that determine the success or otherwise of this popular event, as the close results will eventually show

It is now 7 years since the Rally moved to Park 3. Just like last year, the generous enthusiasm of Globe Ground at Malta Airport has spurred this event to ever higher levels. “It is run by volunteer enthusiasts who thankfully are still around in good numbers on this island.”

The organisers said that “Malta International Airport has helped with logistical and organisational movement within the Airport and Security Services. Immigration Police and Customs Officials have been a real mainstay in helping this event to keep the standard of Maltese Hospitality at its best.

“Malta Air Traffic Services Ltd will be providing yet again their generous high quality services.”

The first light aircraft start arriving for this year’s Air Rally on Saturday at 3.30pm.
