Ghajnsielem is celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto this week. Part of the celebrations included the St Joseph’s Band Annual Feast Concert which was held in the village square, and presented by Lelio Spiteri and Lorietta Buttigieg.
The large audience present showed their appreciation for the night’s stirring performance by the band, with a selection of works from J.P. Sousa, J. Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Mozart among others.
The band was under the direction of Mro Frankie Debono and Assistant Director Mro Anthony Galea, in their first annual feast concert.
The audience gave a round of applause to the former band director Mro Sunny Galea as the St Joseph Band played one of his compositions.
During the evening speeches were made by the band’s President Gino Cauchi. Musical Director Mro Frankie Debono and the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, the concert concluded with Puccini’s ‘Nessun Dorma.’
During the evening’s event, three new musical instruments (two saxophones and a trombone) were presented to promising young bandsmen.
Following the concert the Minister for Gozo, together with the members of the St Joseph Band committee inaugurated the newly refurbished ‘Giuseppe’ Bistro cafe inside the band club’s premises.
Renovations to the bar-area include new furniture, ceiling bulkhead, tiles and lighting system. The kitchen has been moved downstairs, which has enlarged the seating area.
