Englishman Roderick MacDonald aged 76, who was sought by the UK in order to serve a prison sentence over sexual offences on minors, appeared in court today for the extradition proceedings as requested by the UK judicial authorities.
When asked by the Magistrate, MacDonald said that he had no objection to being extradited back to the UK. He was therefore taken to the Corradino Correctional Facility until he leaves Malta.
The British media has reported that MacDonald is also wanted by the UK police for questioning in connection with a a paedophile ring which is possibly linked to the abduction of Madeleine McCann in Portugal in May 2007.
MacDonald was located and arrested yesterday by members of the Malta Police Force at his residence in Sannat, Gozo.
