The Ministry for Gozo in a statement this afternoon said that the request for proposals in connection with the the design, construction and operation of a cruise liner terminal and yacht marina in Gozo closed yesterday, Friday, the 17th of October.

The call for proposals opened on the 16th of May.

The Ministry said that of the six proponents who took on the project document by the 18th of July, only one presented a proposal within the stipulated time, Kalamarine Development Consortium.

The process of final evaluation will now get underway, and from there all decisions will be made regarding the project, the Ministry said.

The Government said that the broad objective of the project is to attract mainly small to medium sized cruise ships to Gozo and to have a marina that accommodates, but not limited to, 300 berths for yachts including about thirty berths for up to thirty five meter yachts (or larger craft). The rest may vary in size from ten to fifteen meters.

“There is no preferred site(s) for the project, hence GoM is leaving all options open. As a Government policy Hondoq Ir-Rummien is excluded.”
