Four off duty volunteer lifeguards of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps assisted three persons, while they were surfing in Ramla Bay, Gozo, at around 2.30pm this afternoon.
They noticed three persons being dragged by the currents towards the easterly area of the bay, an area very well known by locals as being dangerous, due to whirlpools.
Two of the lifeguards were an off duty police officer and an off duty Civil Protection Department officer.
The lifeguards made their way out to them and dragged all three men ashore and provided them with first aid. One of the men assisted needed urgent assistance as he showed signs of fatigue. They were all foreigners in their mid twenties.
Lifeguarding service in Ramla Bay was terminated in the last week of September.
