A Musico-Literary Evening was held on Saturday evening at St George’s Basilica, with the participation of the Basilica Laudate Pueri Choir.
The event took place as part of the closing events to mark the end of celebrations for the 175th anniversary of the titular statue of St George.
Distinguished guests present for the occasion included the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo and Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech, among others.
The evening’s programme included an audio-visual feature, sacred motets, poetry and a keynote speech by Dr Joe Zammit Ciantar presenting a new publication by the Historical-Cultural Committee marking the 175th anniversary of Gozo’s first titular statue.
The 150-pages book features unique old photographs of the statue and a collection of academic research on this artistic treasure which graces our island.
Bishop Grech and the Minister for Gozo inaugurated the exhibition on Pietro Paolo Azzopardi and his statue, which is being held in St George’s Square and Dar Lehen il-Belt Victoria, and will remain open until the 23rd of November.
